CAP closed out the final Coastal Conversation of the fall speaker series on Tuesday, November 9th. We were honored to host former Pittsburgh, PA Mayor Tom Murphy at the History Museum of Mobile to talk about his experience as Mayor from January 1994 through December 2005.
Mayor Murphy spoke about how he transformed his community when faced with certain adversity and offered his experience, advice and pathways for any community looking to grow and prosper. During his Mayoral tenure, Murphy initiated a public/private partnership strategy that leveraged more than $4.5 billion in economic development in the city. Murphy led efforts to secure and oversee $1 billion in funding for the development of two professional sports facilities, and a new convention center that is the largest certified green building in the United States.
Mayor Murphy spent time on the morning of November 10th, speaking with Mayor Stimpson and his staff in Government Plaza. Following his time with Mayor Stimpson, Mayor Murphy spoke with the Mobile Downtown Alliance and some representatives from our regional Chambers of Commerce.
