In October, sustainable tourism expert Costas Christ and the Beyond Green Travel team spent a full week continuing their efforts to develop a regional ecotourism for the Coastal Alabama region. It was an exciting week of stakeholder meetings and exploring the abundant ecotourism assets our region has to offer.
The Beyond Green Travel team spent time with community leaders in the Gulf Shores and Orange Beach areas before traveling to Fairhope to explore and meet with Casey Williams, Executive Director of the Eastern Shore Chamber of Commerce. Stakeholder meetings continued with Baldwin County Commissioner, Billie Jo Underwood, and Mobile County Commissioners, Merceria Ludgood and Connie Hudson.
On Wednesday, the Beyond Green Travel team ventured by boat into the Delta to experience the 3 mile long Ron Jones Paddle Trail that connects William Brooks Park and Chickasabogue Park. On Thursday, the team met with Judy Haner of The Nature Conservancy in Bayou La Batre to explore the west end of Dauphin Island, Marsh Island, Cat Island, DeltaPort Marina, West Fowl River, and the restoration project at Lightning Point.
Beyond Green Travel will be returning to the region several times in the upcoming months to continue evaluating ecotourism assets, meeting with environmental leaders, and identifying expansion opportunities for ecotourism.
